Saturday, February 1st

NYCMTB - First Saturdays @ Wolfe's Pond Park: Join NYCMTB on the First Saturday of each month to help, build, ride, and maintain the trails at Wolfe's Pond Park in Staten Island. Our work day starts with a group mountain bike ride, followed by trail work. Trail work volunteers help perform essential maintenance tasks such as litter pickup, raking, erosion control, and signage maintenance. Timing: Saturday, February 1st. Group ride 10am - 11am. Trail work 11am - 2pm+. Meeting Location: Main Parking lot, Wolfe's Pond Park Maintenance Shop, 475 Cornelia Ave Staten Island, NY 10312 (meet by the Parks Department office building). Activity level: moderate to strenuous. Required gear: Comfortable clothing for hiking and biking. A mountain bike, if you are riding. Water bottle and snacks. Provided gear: Hand tools for trail work. RSVP Here.

NYC Parks - Forest Restoration @ Conference House Park: Volunteers will learn how to safely remove invasive plants to help ensure a healthier ecosystem. Timing: 10:00am-12:00pm. Meeting Location: Conference House Park Visitor’s Center. Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required Gear: Volunteers should dress in clothes that can get dirty and closed toe shoes. They should also bring their own bottles. Provided gear: Gloves and work tools.

Prospect Park Alliance - Lefferts Yard Renewal:  Wednesdays 10am - 1pm

In Spring 2020, Lefferts Historic House will undergo a two-year renovation to restore the house's exterior.  Leading up to the house closure, there's work to be done in the Lefferts yard to ensure that it will be ready for construction.  Volunteers will assist in spreading mulch, pruning, removing trash, debris, and taking out unwanted plants and saplings. Built by a Dutch family in the 18th-century farming village of Flatbush, Lefferts Historic House features a working garden, historic artifacts, period rooms and exhibits.  Prospect Park Alliance and the Historic House Trust of New York City jointly operate and preserve this important piece of New York City's past. NYCMTB - Second Saturdays at Highbridge Park: Join NYCMTB on the Second Saturday of each month to help, build, ride, and maintain the trails at Highbridge Park in Manhattan. Our work day starts with a trail work project, followed by a group mountain bike ride. Trail work volunteers help perform essential maintenance tasks such as litter pickup, raking, erosion control, and signage maintenance. Timing: Saturday, February 8th 2020. Trail work 10am - 12pm. Skills clinic and group ride 12pm - 2pm+. Meeting location: Fort George Playground, 131 Fort George Ave, New York, NY 10040 (meet by the tool shed). Activity level (easy, moderate, strenuous): Moderate to strenuous. Required gear, if any:  Comfortable clothing for hiking and biking. Water bottle and snacks. Provided gear, if any:  Hand tools for trail work will be provided. Mountain bikes and helmets are available to borrow for free as part of the Highbridge bike share program. NYC Parks - Forest Restoration @ Alley Pond Park: Volunteers will learn how to safely remove invasive plants to help ensure a healthier ecosystem. Timing: 10:00am-12:00pm. Meeting Location: Northern Blvd and 234th Street. Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required Gear: Volunteers should dress in clothes that can get dirty and closed toe shoes. NYC Parks - Maintenance Hike @ Cunningham Trail: Volunteers will help to keep these trails clean, safe, and ecologically healthy by joining the NYC Parks Stewardship Team and the Natural Areas Conservancy on a trail maintenance hike! During these 2 hour hikes, you’ll learn about the geology and ecology of NYC’s natural areas while helping to maintain the trail systems by clearing overgrown trail corridors, cutting back invasive plants, and removing obstacles and debris. Timing: 10:00am-12:00pm. Meeting Location: Union Turnpike and Francis Lewis Boulevard. Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required Gear: warm clothes and sturdy boots or shoes. RSVP here

NYC Parks - Winter Tree ID and Tour @ Ecology Park: Volunteers will learn how to identify native and invasive trees within the 14 plant communities in this park’s boundaries. Timing: 10:00am-12:00pm. NYC Parks - Maintenance Hike@ Riverdale Park Trail: Volunteers will learn about the geology and ecology of NYC’s natural areas while helping to maintain the trail systems by clearing overgrown trail corridors, cutting back invasive plants, and removing obstacles and debris. Timing: 10:00am-12:00pm. Meeting Location:  Riverdale Park Parking Lot (Spaulding Lane). Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required Gear: warm clothes and sturdy boots or shoes. RSVP here

NYC Parks - Beach Grass planting@ Coney Island Beach: Volunteers will help prepare beach grass culms (stems) for planting. Before culms are ready to be planted on the dune, they must be processed and packaged in a way to ensure their viability. This process involves removing outer brown sheaths (layers) of old growth to expose the green live portion of the plants as well as removing excess roots and rhizomes. Timing: 10:00am-1:00pm. Meeting Location: New York Aquarium Education Hall- Boardwalk Entrance. Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required Gear: warm clothes and sturdy boots or shoes. RSVP here

NYC Parks - Wetland Restoration @ Powell’s Cove: Volunteers will be removing debris from Powell's Cove Park. Volunteers will also learn how to safely remove invasive plants from Powell's Cove Park shoreline in order to help create a healthier ecosystem. Timing: 10:00am-12:00pm.
