Saturday, December 7th

NYC Parks Stewardship - Street Tree Care in Hunts Point: Volunteers will learn how to aerate, cultivate, mulch, and identify street trees. They will also learn about the important roles street trees play in New York City. Timing: 9am-12pm. Meeting location: Manida Street & the north side of Spofford Avenue. Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required gear: Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Please bring your own water bottle for this event. Provided gear: Gloves and work tools

Saturday, December 7th

New York City Mountain Bike Association - First Saturdays at Wolfe's Pond Park:  Group mountain bike ride, followed by trail work. Join NYCMTB on the First Saturday of each month to help, build, ride, and maintain the trails at Wolfe's Pond Park in Staten Island. Volunteers help conduct our monthly trail inspection, perform routine maintenance tasks, such as litter pickup raking, erosion control (digging), and signage maintenance. Start/end time: Group ride 10am - 11am. Trail work 11am - 2pm+. Meeting location: Main Parking lot, Wolfe's Pond Park Maintenance Shop, 475 Cornelia Ave Staten Island, NY 10312. Activity level: moderate. Required gear: A mountain bike. Comfortable clothing for hiking and biking. Water bottle and snacks (optional). Provided gear: Hand tools for trail work.

NYC Parks Stewardship - Green Neighborhood @ Conference House Park: Volunteers will learn how to identify and safely remove invasive plants in order to help restore natural areas and create a healthier ecosystem. Timing: 9:30am-12pm. Meeting location: Conference House Park Visitor Center (Satterlee Street & Hylan Boulevard). Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required gear: Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Please bring your own water bottle for this event. Provided gear: Gloves and work tools

NYC Parks Stewardship - Tree Planting @ Fairview Park: Volunteer with the Stewardship Team to plant trees in Fairview Park! Trees provide so many benefits to New Yorkers such as improved air and water quality, reduced pollution, and lower energy costs. Volunteers will be trained in proper planting techniques. Timing: 10am-1pm. Meeting location: Charleston Shopping Center: Target Parking Lot. Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required gear: Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Please bring your own water bottle for this event. Provided gear: Gloves and work tools

NYC Parks Stewardship - Piping Plover Fence Removal @ Rockaway Beach: Since 1996, NYC Parks has been managing the nesting grounds of federally endangered Piping Plovers on the Rockaway Peninsula. The peninsula has proven to be an important habitat for several threatened and endangered species of plants and wildlife and it is important, now more than ever, to continue to protect and preserve their habitat. Join the NYC Parks Stewardship Team as we care for the habitat and nesting grounds of these endangered shorebirds and plants. Timing: 9:30am-12:30pm. Meeting location:  End of Beach 56th Place (near the boardwalk). Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required gear: Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Tuesday, December 10th 

Prospect Park Alliance - Eastside Revival: Join Prospect Park Alliance to help beautify two of the Park’s most elegant locations: the Vale of Cashmere and the Rose Garden. Tasks may include raking, sweeping, path edging, and litter removal. Timing: 9:30am - 1:30pm. Meeting location: Enter park at Grand Army Plaza. Walk down East Drive against bike traffic to first stoplight. Turn left into the woods and take immediate right. Walk 20 paces and take stairs on left down to lower pool. From there, walk around the pool to your left. There is a short staircase on your right leading up to the Pump House where we start our day. Please call 718-287-6776 with any questions. Activity level: Easy- Moderate. Required gear: Water bottle. Provided gear: Work gloves, all tools, sunscreen, bug spray.

Saturday, December 14th

New York City Mountain Bike Association - Second Saturdays at Highbridge Park: Trail work followed by a mountain bike skills clinic and group ride. Join NYCMTB on the Second Saturday of each month to help, build, ride, and maintain the trails at Highbridge Park in Manhattan. Volunteers help conduct our regular trail inspection, perform routine maintenance tasks, such as litter pickup, raking, erosion control, and signage maintenance. Start/end time: Trail work 10am - 12pm. Skills clinic and group ride 12pm - 2pm+. Meeting location: Fort George Playground, 131 Fort George Ave, New York, NY 10040. Activity level: Moderate. Required gear:  Comfortable clothing for hiking and biking.  Water bottle and snacks (optional).  Provided gear: Mountain bikes and helmets are available to borrow for free as part of the Highbridge bike share program. Hand tools for trail work will be provided.

NYC Parks Stewardship - Wetland Restoration @ Soundview Park: Volunteers will learn how to safely remove invasive plants from the Soundview Park shoreline in order to help create a healthier ecosystem.  Timing: 9am-12pm. Meeting location:  Leland Ave and O'Brien Ave. Activity level: Easy to Moderate. Required gear: Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. i tried to send a message through eventbrite but i am not sure if it went through. Can we still participate in Jamaicas clean up and bring more awareness to families?
