Sick of finding trash when you go out in nature? Do something about it!

Do you love recreating as well as the environment, and feel discouraged and frustrated when the areas where you love to play outdoors are littered with trash? You can make a difference by changing your routine a little, and raising awareness about leave no trace and environmental etiquette in your area. Here are a few changes you can make:

1) start bringing a trash bag with you when you go for your hikes/trail runs etc., pick up the trash, and TAKE IT WITH YOU! Do not leave bags of trash where they do not belong, such as in a parking lot or hanging from a tree!

2) take pictures of your trash pickup efforts and post them to social media, such as @keepnaturewild on instagram https://www.instagram.com/keepnaturewild/?hl=en

3) educate yourself about LNT principles! https://lnt.org/ Then, post a sign or bulletin in your local recreational areas that (politely) educates recreators about LNT principles so that they, too, can become stewards of the outdoors. "9 in 10 people in the outdoors are uninformed about their impacts. Let's change that." - LNT Center for Outdoor Ethics

4) research what environmental resources are in your area and consider volunteering to facilitate a LNT workshop or other helpful workshop to educate the community about environmental stewardship and why we should practice it.

5) start taking small steps in your own life to reduce your use of single-use plastics, and educate those around you about why they should too! https://www.plasticpollutioncoalition.org/

Have fun and feel proud about every single piece of trash that you remove from nature! Every little bit helps!
