Socks and boots

Hello,

I am taking a trip into the Amazon region of Colombia next April.  Although we are not camping, we will hike 4 miles from a river to village through jungle which involves crossing (wading) streams.  What boots and socks would you recommend?

Re: Socks and boots

@Indyvdub thank you for reaching out!

It can be difficult to make footwear recommendations over the internet because the fit matters so much, and that's hard to know without seeing/measuring your foot! So many factors to assess to ensure you get a good fit - if possible, for footwear, we always recommend coming into your local REI for a fitting. If that's not possible, here are a few things to consider:

  • Look for footwear that is not waterproof; you’ll want a shoe that will drain out as quickly as possible because a waterproof shoe will just trap water in.
  • Also, if you don’t plan to carry a heavy pack, a trail runner might be a good category to consider, as they will typically be lighter-weight than hiking shoes/boots and they usually have a light breathable mesh upper that will help ventilate to dry quicker.

Here's an article to get you started on selecting hiking boots, but if you decide to go with trail runners, take a look at this article

Additionally, consider lightweight socks made of synthetic materials, because they are durable, the materials dry fast, and they wick moisture. The following are synthetic sock options to consider:

Hope this helps! And if you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out!
